There are so many important things to know about cannabis and dispensaries that sell weed products. These are just a few frequently asked questions for people to sift through as they open up and explore cannabis.
What Exactly is a Weed Dispensary?
Think of it as a retail store that sells marijuana products for medical and/or adult use, depending on the state laws. However, these dispensaries are licensed and heavily regulated by the local government. Weed dispensaries also need to follow numerous sets of rules and regulations.
How to Buy Weed From a Dispensary?
You must be 21 years of age to visit a weed dispensary. You must carry a valid, state-issued ID, such as your driver’s license or passport. Also, remember to bring cash with you. Many dispensaries don’t accept credit cards as a form of payment yet. If you’re a medical user of cannabis, don’t forget to carry your medical marijuana card. In states where only medical marijuana is legal, you must qualify for a medical marijuana card to purchase cannabis products.
When you visit the dispensary, you’ll have to show your ID or medical marijuana card to enter. Once inside, a budtender will provide you with the products you want, as weed dispensaries don’t offer the serve-yourself option. You can ask your budtender questions about different products and even ask for recommendations.
In Which States Weed is Legal?
In the US, medical marijuana is legal in the following states: Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.
Medical cannabis is also legal in the District of Columbia and the territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands.
In addition to medical marijuana, adult use of marijuana is legal in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.
Recreational cannabis is also legal in Washington, the District of Columbia, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
How Do You Smoke Weed?
Smoking is probably the most common way people consume weed. Popular ways of smoking cannabis include: joints, blunts, pipes and bongs.
Joints are made from stuffing or tightly packing cannabis into a rolling paper. To roll a joint, you need to clean and crush the weed. Then, spread your rolling paper, add your crushed weed, and roll it into a tube. You can use a filter to make the process easy.
Blunts are similar to joints, but instead of rolling paper, they’re made from a cigar wrap or blunt wrap. The process of rolling a blunt is the same as that of rolling a joint.
Pipes are made up of a hollow, bowl-shaped component where you place your weed and a mouthpiece through which you inhale. Bongs (also called water pipes) use water to cool and filter smoke. It provides a less harsh hit.
How Long Does a Weed High Last?
How long a weed high lasts depends on a range of factors. These include how much cannabis you consume, how much THC it contains, your body weight, your metabolism, and your tolerance. Typically, it can last anywhere between 2 and 10 hours.
If you smoke or vape your cannabis, you’ll feel the effects around 10 minutes after smoking. They can last for 1 to 3 hours. Sometimes you may feel the effects for up to 8 hours. If you consume cannabis through edibles, the effects peak around 2 hours after ingesting it and can last up to 24 hours. With dabbing, effects last for 1 to 3 hours. But if you use a high THC concentrate, the effects can linger for an entire day.
How Much THC is Present in Weed?
The THC content of weed products indicates its potency. Consumers need to be aware of the percentage of THC when making a purchase. Most states that have legalized cannabis require products to mention the THC content on the label.
The THC content in cannabis flower depends on factors such as genetics, enzymes, and environment. The THC content in cannabis flowers typically is between 10% and 40%. Cannabis extracts can contain up to 99% of THC.
What Does Weed Smell Like?
Marijuana users describe the scent of most cannabis to be earthy, musky, and woody. Some cannabis has a citrusy or sweet smell.
The smell of the cannabis plant depends on its terpenes. Terpenes are botanical compounds that are responsible for the way plants, flowers, and fruits smell. There are around 150 known terpenes in cannabis, of which only 17 are common.
The terpene Myrcene makes the cannabis smell earthy, musky, and herbal. While the Β-caryophyllene terpene gives it a clove-like scent, the Α-humulene terpene makes it smell earthy and spicy. The Α-pinene terpene gives cannabis a herbal scent. The Limonene terpene makes it smell like citrus peel, and the Linalool terpene offers floral notes to weed.
How Do You Keep Weed Fresh?
Storing your weed in an airlocked environment will prevent microbial growth and keep your weed fresh for a long time. You can use a glass jar with a lid or an empty medicinal bottle to store your cannabis flowers. If you have the option between a dark, tinted container and a transparent container, opt for the dark, tinted one.
If you can afford to spend a little more, you can seal your marijuana in containers made of BPA plastic or buy a titanium container for storage. You can also purchase a cannabis humidor. Designed for the storage of cannabis, cannabis humidors are airtight and opaque. They even maintain the right humidity level.
What is the Limit for Cannabis Possession?
The laws and penalties related to marijuana possession differ from state to state. Possession can be a misdemeanor or a felony offense depending on the state laws, amount of marijuana, previous convictions, medical marijuana card, and other factors.
In California, where medical and recreational use of cannabis is legal, adults over 21 can possess or purchase up to an ounce of cannabis and up to 8 grams of concentrated marijuana.
In Michigan, adults can possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana and 15 grams of concentrated cannabis.
Arkansas and Ohio have not legalized the adult use of marijuana. In Arkansas, first-time possession of up to four ounces of cannabis is punishable with a six-month driver’s license suspension, along with a hefty fine and imprisonment. Possession of cannabis is illegal but not always criminal in Ohio. Possession of about 3.5 ounces is considered a minor misdemeanor that attracts a fine of up to $150.
