Visitor’s Guide to the SS Milwaukee Clipper

The decommissioned passenger ship and automobile ferry, known as the SS Milwaukee Clipper, was originally called the SS Juniata and traversed all Great Lakes except Lake Ontario. The vessel is currently docked at Muskegon, Michigan.

From Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend, tours of the Clipper are conducted all summer long, allowing visitors to see the theatre, soda bowl, crew quarters, and more. There are also Milwaukee Clipper and Juniata memorabilia exhibits, including brochures, dishes, memory books, and photographs. Much of the ship’s original art deco furniture is also still present on board.

The S.S. Milwaukee Clipper Preservation organization’s committed volunteers take great care to celebrate her rich heritage as they work tirelessly to restore her. It’s undoubtedly a tour you don’t want to miss, as the steamer in question was arguably one of the most significant in the 20th century. If you’re in Muskegon on August 6th, don’t forget to drop by for the Captain’s 100th birthday celebrations.

The renovated ship now has the capacity to carry 120 cars, air-conditioned staterooms, a kids’ play area, a movie theater, a dance floor with a live band, a soda fountain, bar, café, lounges, and a sports deck. The wide range of amenities and activities make it a popular destination for visitors and locals.
